Nicolas Jarry Upsets Carlos Alcaraz

In a surprising turn of events, Nicolas Jarry of Chile defeated No. 2-ranked Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the Argentina Open on Saturday. Jarry won the match with a score of 7-6 (2), 6-3.

This victory marks one of the biggest wins of Jarry's career, and he will now face home crowd favorite Facundo Diaz Acosta in the final on Sunday. It will be their first meeting at the tour-level.

Alcaraz, who was the defending champion, has not looked as sharp and aggressive this week as he was a year ago. The 20-year-old Spaniard showed his frustration by smashing his racket onto the court after his defeat, something he rarely does.

Alcaraz's Post-Match Comments

After his defeat, Alcaraz congratulated Jarry on his win and wished him good luck for the final. Alcaraz will be competing next week at the Rio Open tournament in Brazil.

Although Alcaraz has not had a final appearance since August and has not won a title since Wimbledon, his loss to Jarry was only his fourth on clay in 31 matches since 2023. It was also only his third loss in 49 matches against players ranked outside the top 20 during the same period.

Jarry, on the other hand, will be playing for his fourth ATP singles title, all of which have been won on clay. He previously won trophies in Bastad 2019, Genoa 2023, and Santiago 2023.

Diaz Acosta Advances to Final

In the other semifinal match, wild card entry Facundo Diaz Acosta defeated Argentine compatriot Federico Coria with a score of 6-2, 6-3. This win marks Diaz Acosta's first tour semifinal appearance.

Diaz Acosta, who is currently ranked 87th, will now face Nicolas Jarry in the final. It will be a significant moment in his career as it is his highest-ranking tournament to date.

The final match between Diaz Acosta and Jarry will take place on Sunday, where the two players will battle for the Argentina Open title.
