George Conway Calls Reported Michigan Call 'Corrupt'

Conservative lawyer George Conway criticized a reported call made by former President Trump and Republican National Committee chair (RNC) Ronna McDaniel to two Michigan canvassers after the 2020 election Friday, calling it 'corrupt.'

Conway said on MSNBC that the call was 'crazy and corrupt.' He also criticized McDaniel, saying, 'if my former political party had any decency or shame, she’d be out on her ass.'

The call, in which Trump reportedly pressured the canvassers not to sign the certification of the 2020 election, was recorded and obtained by The Detroit News.

Trump Urged Canvassers Not to Certify Election Results

In the call, Trump was heard pressuring Wayne County canvassers Monica Palmer and William Hartmann to not sign the certification of the 2020 election results. Trump implored them to 'fight for our country' and claimed that 'we can’t let these people take our country away from us.'

The canvassers, who were in a vehicle at the time of the call, acknowledged that other people were present and may have overheard the conversation.

Ronna McDaniel, the RNC chair, was also reportedly involved in the call and offered the canvassers legal assistance.

McDaniel Stands By Call for Election Audit

Ronna McDaniel stood by a letter she wrote, along with Michigan Republican Party Chair Laura Cox, urging the Michigan Board of State Canvassers to conduct an audit before certifying the election results.

In a statement to The Detroit News, McDaniel stated that there was ample evidence that warranted an audit. She reiterated her position from the letter and maintained her support for it.

The call and actions of Trump and McDaniel have stirred controversy and criticism, with Conway and others labeling it as corrupt and unethical.
