Dbrand's Teardown Designs

Dbrand is known for its Teardown device skins and cases that give the appearance of a device being taken apart and exposing its internals. The company partnered with YouTuber JerryRigEverything to create these designs, which require detailed disassembly of devices and scanning of their internals.

Casetify launched a similar line of phone cases called Inside Parts, which also featured images of device internals. However, users noticed that the designs were not accurate representations of the specific devices they were sold for.

Casetify Accused of Copying Designs

Dbrand called out Casetify's reuse of the same design across different phone models in a video, pointing out the lack of accuracy in the representations. Casetify later released a new line of transparent-style cases called Inside Out, which Dbrand claims were copied from its designs.

Dbrand discovered evidence of Casetify's alleged copying, including Easter eggs planted in its own designs that appeared in Casetify's products. Dbrand holds registered copyrights for each of its designs, which were registered before Casetify's product launch.

Legal Action and New Products

Instead of issuing a cease-and-desist order, Dbrand has filed a federal lawsuit against Casetify in Canadian courts. The company is seeking eight figures in damages.

Dbrand has also launched a new set of X-ray skins across its product portfolio. These skins, captured at high resolution, show intricate details of device internals.

The timing of the new product launch coincides with the lawsuit, and YouTuber JerryRigEverything encourages supporters to buy the new skins to support legal efforts against Casetify.
