Trump Attacks Biden and Claims He's Destroying American Democracy

Former President Donald Trump focused his attacks on President Biden during a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Trump distributed signs reading 'Biden attacks Democracy' to rally-goers, accusing Biden of being the destroyer of American democracy. Trump also made an unverified claim on social media that Biden has the Justice Department suing him. He pledged to appoint a special prosecutor to go after Mr. Biden if he wins the presidency in 2024.

These attacks by Trump come after two legal setbacks on Friday, with a federal judge rejecting his attempt to dismiss the special counsel's election interference case against him and a federal appeals court ruling that Trump is not entitled to broad immunity from civil lawsuits related to the January 6 Capitol insurrection.

The Biden re-election campaign denied going after Trump personally and accused Trump of using the government as his personal weapon. They called Trump's attacks a desperate attempt at distraction and stated that the American people see through it.

DeSantis Highlights Differences with Trump During Iowa Campaign Stops

While Trump focused on attacking Biden, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis completed his campaign tour of all 99 counties in Iowa. DeSantis emphasized that he considers himself a servant rather than a ruler and criticized Trump's failures to deliver on his promises, such as building a wall, draining the swamp, and appointing a special counsel for Democrats.

DeSantis also criticized Trump's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, calling it the wrong approach and disqualifying. He mentioned Trump's presidential commendation to Dr. Anthony Fauci and accused Trump of not offering support to those involved in the Capitol insurrection.

DeSantis was introduced by evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats and Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, who have both endorsed him. Vander Plaats argued that voting for DeSantis is about the future of the country and not against Trump.

Iowa Voter Considers DeSantis as a 'God-Fearing Man'

Ron Murray, an Iowa voter from Jasper County, expressed his support for DeSantis after attending the campaign event. Murray believed that DeSantis is a God-fearing man and preferred him over Trump. He stated that voting for DeSantis is not against Trump but about the future of the country.

With less than 100 days until the Iowa caucus, DeSantis still faces a significant disadvantage in polls compared to Trump. However, his completion of the 99-county tour demonstrates his dedication to the campaign.
