Where to begin

When designing a space, it's helpful to start with an inspiration. This can be a previously designed space, a specific piece of furniture or art, or even a travel destination that inspired you.

Evaluate the elements that inspired you, whether it's the colors, design, or architecture. Allow your intuition to guide you in incorporating similar elements into your own design.

Getting started

Once you have your inspiration, build upon it by incorporating a selection of similar elements. Colors that are tints, tones, and shades of the same color will blend well together, as will colors that are complementary on a color wheel.

Consider the season you're designing for. In the fall, warm colors such as red, orange, and deep yellow can add a sense of coziness. Winter calls for brighter colors like white, taupe, and light gray to combat dark and snowy days. Spring is a time for bright, playful colors, while summer inspires thoughts of sun, sand, and beach with nautical elements and water-inspired colors.
