Elon Musk Escalates Attack on Disney
Elon Musk launches a series of attacks on Disney and Bob Iger, including misspelling Iger's name and calling for his immediate firing.
Elon Musk's Attacks on Disney and Bob Iger
Elon Musk, still upset about Disney pulling money off X last month due to his tweets, has taken to Twitter to launch a series of attacks on Disney and its executive, Bob Iger. Musk's attacks ranged from puerile, with multiple misspellings of Iger's name, to nonsensical accusations. He even claimed that Walt Disney would be turning in his grave over what Iger has done to the company, despite the fact that Musk was born several years after Disney's death.
It is possible that Musk's tweets are an attempt to add to the pressure campaign led by activist investor Nelson Peltz, who plans to create a proxy campaign to win seats on Disney's board. Additionally, Musk's attacks may earn him favor with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has been waging his own strange campaign against Disney for past grievances dating back to the time of Bob Chapek, Iger's predecessor. Overall, these attacks on Iger paint a negative picture of his leadership.
Despite the criticism, it is important to acknowledge Iger's accomplishments. While he bears responsibility for certain failures at Disney, such as the overpriced acquisition of Fox and the resulting heavy debt load, Iger was proactive in adapting Disney for the streaming age, outpacing many other major TV companies. Taking his overall track record into consideration, Iger's leadership can still be seen as a positive one.
