Falcons to Hire Raheem Morris as Head Coach
The Atlanta Falcons have chosen to hire Raheem Morris as their new head coach, making him the first former NFL head coach owner Arthur Blank has hired in his ownership tenure.
Falcons Choose Morris as Head Coach
The Atlanta Falcons have made their decision on a new head coach. According to sources, the team has chosen Raheem Morris to fill the position. This move makes Morris the first former NFL head coach that owner Arthur Blank has hired in his over 20 years of ownership.
The decision comes after an extensive search that considered 14 candidates, including notable names like Bill Belichick and Jim Harbaugh. Morris was one of four coaches who had second interviews with the club before being selected for the position.
Morris' History and Return to the Falcons
This will be Morris' second stint with the Atlanta Falcons. He previously served as the team's interim coach for 11 games in 2020 after the firing of Dan Quinn. Despite a 4-7 record, Morris was not given the full-time job at that time. Instead, the club hired Arthur Smith.
After three years and Smith's recent firing, the Falcons have decided to bring Morris back as their full-time head coach. Morris, who spent the past three seasons as the Los Angeles Rams' defensive coordinator, will now have the opportunity to lead the Falcons.
Expectations for Morris as Head Coach
As the new head coach of the Falcons, Morris will inherit a defense featuring talented players like second-team All-Pro safety Jessie Bates III, cornerback A.J. Terrell, and defensive lineman Grady Jarrett. On offense, Morris will have skilled players such as tight end Kyle Pitts, receiver Drake London, and running backs Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier.
One of Morris' first tasks will be to address the team's quarterback situation. Blank has expressed dissatisfaction with the team's performance at the position, so finding a solution will be a priority for the new head coach.
