A comparison of the Galaxy S22 and S24 series, highlighting the improvements in hardware, software, and features.
Design and Displays
The Galaxy S24 and S24+ have a similar design to their predecessors, with the addition of flat frames and individual circular cutouts for each rear-facing camera. The new models also feature brighter displays, with a peak brightness of up to 2600 nits and 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
In contrast, the Galaxy S22 had a peak brightness of 1300 nits, and both models were limited to a 48-120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy S24+ also offers a higher-resolution panel compared to the S22+.
The new flagships for 2024 also introduce improved Vision Booster technology and Adaptive Color Tone, similar to Apple's True Tone, which adjusts the screen's colors and white balance based on lighting conditions.
Performance and Batteries
The Galaxy S24 and S24+ are equipped with newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Exynos 2400 chips, offering faster CPU performance and improved AI processing compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 SoC found in the Galaxy S22 series.
The newer models also feature better cooling with large vapor chambers and offer more RAM and storage options. The charging speeds remain the same, but the batteries have been upgraded for longer usage.
The Galaxy S24 has a 4,000mAh battery, while the S24+ boasts a 4,900mAh battery, compared to the 3,700mAh and 4,500mAh batteries in the S22 models.
Cameras and Software
The camera hardware of the Galaxy S24 and S24+ is similar to the S22 series, with a 50MP primary shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto. However, the newer models have a 12MP selfie sensor instead of a 10MP one.
Camera improvements in the S24 series are driven by more advanced AI and One UI 6.1 features, offering better low-light video recording and AI-based editing tools.
Speaking of software, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ come with One UI 6.1 based on Android 14, offering new features backed by AI, such as Circle to search, improved translations, generative wallpapers, and enhanced accessibility features.
