Gauff claims victory in nail-biting final

Coco Gauff, the No.1 seed, managed to successfully defend her ASB Classic title by defeating Elina Svitolina, the No.2 seed, in a thrilling final at the WTA 250 event. The match lasted for 2 hours and 35 minutes and ended with Gauff winning 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3.

Despite losing the first set, Gauff displayed determination and resilience which led to her winning the match. This victory marks the seventh singles title of Gauff's career on the Hologic WTA Tour.

"I don’t know if I was expecting this result, but I’m really happy with how I managed to play today," Gauff said. Even though she didn't consider it her best match, winning when not at her best gave her a sense of satisfaction.

Gauff's impressive record at the ASB Classic

Coco Gauff's win in the final extends her winning streak at the ASB Classic to 10 matches. She has continued her dominant performance on the hard courts of Auckland, New Zealand.

Although Gauff lost the first-set tiebreak in this match, she has an impressive overall record at the tournament. In her two title runs, she has won 20 out of 21 sets played.

Gauff has joined the elite club of players who have won back-to-back WTA titles at the ASB Classic, including Patty Fendick, Eleni Daniilidou, and Julia Goerges.

Gauff's success on hard courts and Svitolina's comeback

Coco Gauff, at the age of 19, has a remarkable record in WTA finals, with a 7-1 win-loss record. She has also excelled on hard courts, boasting a 29-4 win-loss record on the surface since the start of last summer’s hard-court season.

On the other hand, Elina Svitolina, last season's WTA Comeback Player of the Year, has also been successful in WTA finals, with a 17-4 career win-loss record. However, she suffered a rare loss in the final against Gauff.

In their previous meeting at the 2021 Australian Open, Svitolina emerged victorious. However, in this match, Gauff took control in the second set and ultimately clinched the title.
