Godzilla Minus One Sets New Box Office Record

The King of the Monsters, Godzilla Minus One, continues to dominate the box office by breaking yet another record. According to Forbes, the film has earned $42 million in domestic ticket sales and an additional $35 million overseas leading up to the New Year's Eve weekend. It is expected to surpass $80 million over the weekend, officially making it the highest-grossing Godzilla movie from Japan ever released. With a budget of around $15 million, the film has already turned a significant profit. Initially, Godzilla Minus One was set to have a limited release in the United States, but after fan demand increased, more screenings were added.

Critical Praise and Award Recognition

In addition to its box office success, Godzilla Minus One has received high praise from both critics and audiences. It has even made the shortlist for the Academy Awards in the Best Visual Effects category, raising the possibility of winning an Oscar. The film's positive reception and impressive ticket sales have prompted a re-release in Japanese theaters on January 12, 2024. This time, the film will be presented in black and white. While a release date for the black-and-white version in the U.S. has not been announced, given the movie's continued success, it is likely that it will also be released stateside.
