Google Announces New Pixel Feature Drop with Exciting Updates for Pixel 8 Pro
Google is releasing a new Pixel Feature Drop for December 2023, bringing exclusive features to the Pixel 8 Pro and other compatible devices.
Gemini Nano on Pixel 8 Pro
Google has introduced the new AI model called Gemini, which will run on various devices, including mobile devices. Pixel 8 Pro users will be treated to the smallest and most efficient form of Gemini called Gemini Nano.
Gemini Nano powers the new Summarize feature in the Recorder app, allowing users to quickly get a summary of their recordings without needing a network connection. It also powers Smart Reply in Gboard, providing more useful suggested responses.
Initially, the Gemini Nano-powered Smart Reply will be available in WhatsApp, with support for more apps coming in the new year.
Video Boost and Night Sight Video on Pixel 8 Pro
During Google's hardware event, they introduced Video Boost as a powerful Pixel 8 Pro exclusive feature. Video Boost uploads videos to the cloud and processes them using computational photography models to enhance lighting, color, stabilization, and graininess.
Video Boost also enables Night Sight Video, an AI-powered feature that applies noise reduction to videos recorded in low-light situations or at night.
Both the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 will also receive Night Sight in Time Lapse, allowing users to capture time-lapse videos in low-light conditions.
Photography Improvements and Other Features
The December Feature Drop brings a series of photography improvements to Pixel devices. Google has added a new AI model to improve Portrait light in Google Photos, removing harsh shadows for better-looking Portrait photos.
Photo Unblur has also been enhanced to sharpen images of dogs and cats, in addition to people's faces. Pixel Fold users can now enable Dual Screen Preview, displaying a camera preview on the outer screen when taking a photo. They can also use their Pixel as a webcam by connecting it to a computer via USB.
Other new features include the Clean feature for scanned documents, Repair Mode for secure phone repairs, smarter replies in Call Screen, and the ability to unlock a Pixel phone using a connected Pixel Watch.
