Google announces the shutdown of Google Pay in the US and the transition to Google Wallet.
Google Pay to shut down in the US
Google Pay, the mobile payments service offered by Google, will be shut down in the US, according to a recent announcement. The standalone Google Pay application will be discontinued on June 4 in order to simplify the app experience.
Despite the shutdown, Americans will still be able to use the most popular features of Google Pay, such as tapping to pay in stores and managing payment methods. However, peer-to-peer payments will no longer be available.
Google Wallet, which was rebranded multiple times over the years, will be the primary mobile payments app for users in the US. The decision to shut down Google Pay is based on the fact that Wallet is used five times more often.
