Greg Norman on the Addition of Jon Rahm

Greg Norman, CEO and commissioner of LIV Golf League, recently spoke about the addition of Jon Rahm to the league. Norman stated that Rahm's decision to join validates the league's 54-hole format, which combines individual and team golf. He mentioned that other players have expressed interest in joining the league and playing on Rahm's team.

Norman expressed his excitement about the response from players around the world, including top players, who appreciate the format and team atmosphere of the LIV Golf League. He believes that Rahm's addition to the league is a significant milestone.

According to Norman, there are currently eight to twelve players competing for two or three available spots on the LIV Golf League roster. He also mentioned that several players have reached out to him expressing their desire to play on Rahm's team.

LIV Golf League's Future

The LIV Golf League is financed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) and is set to start its third season in February. There have been ongoing discussions between the PIF, the PGA Tour, and the LIV Golf League about a potential partnership.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan is scheduled to meet with the PIF's governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, to discuss the alliance. However, regardless of the outcome of these negotiations, Norman stated that the LIV Golf League will continue as a standalone entity.

Norman expressed his support for private equity investments in golf and hopes that more institutions will consider such agreements. He believes that these investments are beneficial for the players and their ability to earn more money.

2024 LIV Golf League Schedule

The LIV Golf League recently released most of its 2024 schedule, which didn't include tournaments at clubs owned by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump's courses had previously hosted events for the league in its first two seasons.

When asked about the exclusion of Trump courses from the 2024 schedule, Norman stated that he was not aware of this decision and couldn't provide any specific information about it. He mentioned that details about the March tournament in Saudi Arabia, the April tournament in the U.S., and the season-ending championships have not been disclosed yet.

When questioned if LIV Golf would play at a Trump course in the future, Norman replied that people will have to wait and see.
