Hideki Matsuyama's Incredible Performance

Hideki Matsuyama made an impressive comeback at The Genesis Invitational, crafting a bogey-free, 9-under 62 in the tournament finale. His score of 17-under 267 secured him a victory by three strokes. This remarkable performance earned him his ninth career PGA TOUR victory, along with 700 FedExCup points and a $4 million payout, which accounts for 20% of the total prize fund.

While Matsuyama is a well-known name in golf, he was considered a longer shot to win the tournament. He had +6000 odds to prevail on BetMGM's board, making him tied for the 27th shortest odds. However, Matsuyama became the shortest winner of the first seven tournaments in 2024, surpassing Wyndham Clark's +8000 odds at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Luke List (+12500) and Will Zalatoris (+4000) both shared runner-up honors at The Genesis Invitational.

Other Notable Performances

Patrick Cantlay, a local native, was bidding for a wire-to-wire victory but finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with a 1-over 72 on Sunday. Tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler finished in a six-way share of 10th place.

Notable players from previous tournaments, Nick Taylor (+6600) and Charley Hoffman (+15000), made the cut at Riviera but didn't factor in the competition. Taylor finished in a tie for 39th place, while Hoffman finished in 50th place.
