Honor announces MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14

Honor has unveiled its latest mobile operating system, MagicOS 8.0, at an event in China. The new version is based on Android 14 and introduces several new features.

One of the key highlights of MagicOS 8.0 is the integration of MagicLM, an on-device large language model with 7 billion parameters. This technology enables advanced language processing and prediction capabilities.

In addition, MagicOS 8.0 features an intent-based user interface (IUI) that proactively suggests services and apps based on the user's unique patterns and preferences. This personalized experience aims to enhance user productivity and convenience.

Introducing Magic Portal and other exciting features

MagicOS 8.0 introduces a new feature called Magic Portal, which leverages Honor's large language model (LLM) and IUI to offer context-based app and service shortcut recommendations. Users can easily access relevant apps and services through a side swipe, making their smartphone experience more seamless.

Magic Portal supports multimodal input, including text and images, and is capable of tracking gestures and eye movement on supported Honor phones. This feature enables users to perform tasks such as dragging and dropping images from one app to another for quick searches within shopping apps.

Additionally, Honor has made improvements to the home screen customization options, UI speed, and resource consumption in MagicOS 8.0. The new operating system also includes a shake-to-block ads feature, parallel spaces for displaying multiple instances of the same app, and other under-the-hood tweaks by Honor's software team.
