Increased Fees for First Checked Bag

JetBlue has raised the fee for the first checked bag within 24 hours of takeoff. The fee for Blue Basic, Blue, and Blue Extra tiers has been increased to $45. This is an increase of $10 from reservations before Jan. 11 and a $5 increase from Jan. 11-31.

Additionally, bags checked over 24 hours before departure now cost $35 for all three fare types.

Second Checked Bag Fees

JetBlue asks Blue Basic, Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra, and JetBlue Plus card member customers to pay second checked bag fees. The fees are $60 for bags checked within 24 hours of departure and $50 for bags checked outside that time frame.

However, Blue Plus, Mint, and Mosaic customers have complimentary first checked bags, and Mint and Mosaic customers can also check a second bag for free.

Additional Bag Fees and Reasoning

JetBlue charges $125 for a third checked bag and $150 for any additional bags on U.S., Latin America, Caribbean, and Canada flights.

The airline explains that the rising costs of doing business, such as increased wages and higher fuel costs, have led to the fee adjustments. JetBlue aims to keep base fares low while covering the increased costs of transporting bags.
