Jon Stewart's Apple TV+ Show Canceled to Avoid Controversy
Jon Stewart returns to The Daily Show tonight after the cancellation of his Apple TV+ show, The Problem With Jon Stewart.
Reason for Cancellation
Jon Stewart appeared on CBS Mornings and revealed that his Apple TV+ show, The Problem With Jon Stewart, was canceled because Apple didn't want him to say things that might get him in trouble.
Stewart expressed his desire to have a platform to share his thoughts during the election season and initially thought he would do it on Apple TV+. However, the network decided against it.
It is unclear what exactly Stewart wanted to say that led to the cancellation, but it seems there were disagreements between him and Apple about the topics to be covered in a potential third season.
The Problem With Jon Stewart
The Problem With Jon Stewart premiered in 2021 and quickly became the most-viewed unscripted series on Apple TV+. The show focused on a single topic in each episode, similar to John Oliver's Last Week Tonight.
Despite its popularity, the show was reportedly canceled last fall. The New York Times mentioned disagreements between Stewart and Apple regarding the coverage of topics like A.I. and China as a possible reason for the cancellation.
Apple CEO Tim Cook faced questioning from a special committee of the U.S. House of Representatives about the report, raising concerns about foreign influence on content decisions.
Jon Stewart's Return to The Daily Show
While his Apple TV+ show is no longer airing, Jon Stewart is making a comeback to The Daily Show as a part-time host. He will sit in the host chair every Monday until the end of the 2024 election cycle, while also serving as an executive producer.
Stewart humorously commented on his return, saying, 'Who better to comment on this election than someone who truly understands two aging men past their prime?'
Fans can catch The Daily Show weeknights at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central and stream it the next day on Paramount+.
