Spieth’s Rollercoaster Round

Jordan Spieth had an eventful round at the Hero World Challenge, with scores ranging from eagle to double-bogey and from 2 to 7. He was the only player to make multiple eagles and his six birdies were third in the field. Despite all the ups and downs, Spieth signed for a 4-under 68.

Pars were rare for Spieth on Thursday, with only five in the round. He had three pars in his first four holes, but only one par in his last 11 holes. His only par on the back nine came on the 18th hole. The final tally for Spieth included one double, two eagles, four bogeys, five pars, and six birdies.

Spieth's Early Success

Spieth started his round quietly with two pars before making an eagle on the par-5 third hole. He continued his success with a birdie on the par-3 fifth hole, reaching 3 under for the day. However, things took a turn when he made a double-bogey on the par-5 sixth after hooking his second shot into a native area.

After a par on the seventh hole, Spieth made a bogey on the par-3 eighth hole and a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole. He made the turn in 1-under 35 but went back to even par after a bogey on the 10th hole. Spieth then made back-to-back birdies and had a rollercoaster ride with a bogey, birdie, and another eagle before finishing with a par on the final hole.

Spieth's Return to Competition

This is Spieth's first stroke-play event since the TOUR Championship in October and his first competitive round since the Ryder Cup. He had previously mentioned that he re-injured his wrist after the Ryder Cup but has been practicing at full capacity for weeks.

Despite the wild ride at the Hero World Challenge, Spieth is still in contention to win his second title at the event.
