Schultz Wins It in Overtime

Justin Schultz scored at 2:35 of overtime, securing a 2-1 win for the Seattle Kraken against the Philadelphia Flyers. This victory extends the Kraken's point streak to eight games. Schultz redirected a pass from Oliver Bjorkstrand to find the back of the net.

Speaking about his winning goal, Schultz stated, 'I just kind of waited for the opportunity. 'Bjorky' and [Yanni Gourde] did a great job just holding on to the puck, and we found an opportunity. [I was] lucky enough to [have it] go in.'

Kraken's Strong Performance

Vince Dunn tied the game early in the third period, and Bjorkstrand contributed two assists to the Kraken's success. Their record now stands at 14-14-9. Joey Daccord made 27 saves to help secure the win.

The team's head coach, Dave Hakstol, praised Schultz's contribution, stating, 'You know, Schultz, he's a guy that's played in this league for a long time...I mean, when we talk about wanting to have team-first guys, selfless guys in this room...the way he handled [being scratched from the lineup] really pushes the group inside of this dressing room in the right direction.'

Flyers' Response and Game Analysis

Travis Konecny scored a short-handed goal to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead, but Dunn's goal in the third period tied the game. Despite the loss, the Flyers have earned points in 12 of their past 13 games.

Philadelphia coach John Tortorella commented on his team's effort, saying, 'In overtime, they get the bounce, but overall, it was a good effort...You always want the other one, but I have no complaints about the effort.'

Winter Classic Up Next

After the victory against the Flyers, the Kraken's attention now turns to the 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic, where they will face the Vegas Golden Knights on New Year's Day at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

Schultz acknowledged the upcoming game and emphasized the team's focus, stating, 'I think we'll get tomorrow to kind of relax, and then Sunday, it starts, basically...It's going to be busy for everyone here, especially for all of us at home. Everyone’s got families and stuff, so it's important for everyone to narrow their focus, and there's still two points on the line.'
