Kuraly Sent to Hospital After Abdominal Injury

Sean Kuraly, forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets, was taken to the hospital after sustaining an abdominal injury during a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The injury occurred in the final 19 seconds of the first period, causing the game to be temporarily suspended. The Blue Jackets have stated that the injury does not appear to be serious, but Kuraly will undergo further evaluation at the hospital. Columbus coach Pascal Vincent believes Kuraly was hit in the chest by a stick, resulting in a combination upper body and head hit.

Medical staff is checking for any signs of bleeding or other complications. Kuraly was sandwiched between Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews and defenseman Jake McCabe during a check. Although he initially got up and skated to the bench, Kuraly collapsed while heading down the tunnel. His teammates and coaches quickly called for medical assistance and play was stopped.

Teammate Adam Fantilli expressed concern for Kuraly, stating that the incident was scary and that they are all hoping for his full recovery. Vincent also expressed uncertainty about what happened behind him but emphasized the urgency in the medical response. The game resumed after the regular intermission, with the remaining 19 seconds of the first period being played. The Maple Leafs eventually won the game.

Blue Jackets defenseman Erik Gudbranson described the tense atmosphere following Kuraly's injury. He mentioned that once they received word that Kuraly was okay, the team had to reset and focus on the game. Gudbranson stated that they were told to go back on the ice, and their mindset became "Winning for this guy." The incident actually heightened their focus and determination.

According to Gudbranson, they were relieved to hear that Kuraly was in the care of medical professionals. As hockey players, they understand that injuries are part of the game, but their priority is the well-being of their teammate. Gudbranson also expressed his anticipation to personally check up on Kuraly and ensure that he is doing well.
