Lindsay Lohan Upset with Joke in Mean Girls Remake

Lindsay Lohan was deeply saddened and disappointed by a joke made in the new Mean Girls movie. In Tina Fey's remake, Angourie Rice takes over the role of Cady Heron that Lohan played in the original film. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who is part of the movie's soundtrack, makes a cameo appearance and comments on Cady's Christmas-themed talent show outfit, referencing a derogatory term used against Lohan in the past. A representative for Lohan stated that she was hurt by the joke.

Lohan also makes a brief appearance in the movie as the moderator for the Mathletes competition. Rice expressed her appreciation for Lohan's cameo, stating that it meant a lot to her.

Audience Disappointment with Mean Girls Remake

Following the release of the movie in US cinemas, some audience members took to social media to express their disappointment. Many were expecting a direct remake of the 2004 comedy classic, but instead, the film is an adaptation of Tina Fey's Broadway musical. Paramount intentionally avoided marketing it as a musical to appeal to a larger audience, according to the president of global marketing, Marc Weinstock.

The movie has been successful at the US box office, earning $33 million during its opening weekend, despite mixed reviews from critics. Clarisse Loughrey from The Independent gave the movie a two-star review, noting that most of the cast struggled to replicate the comedic timing of the original stars, and the musical numbers were hindered by a limited budget.

Release Details and Contacting Paramount

Mean Girls is currently playing in US cinemas, and it will be released in UK cinemas on January 17th. The Independent has reached out to Paramount for further comment on Lindsay Lohan's reaction to the joke in the movie but has not received a response yet.
