Liverpool Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch Suffers Ankle Ligament Injury
Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has sustained an ankle ligament injury during the Carabao Cup final.
Injury Update for Ryan Gravenberch
Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch suffered ankle ligament damage in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final triumph — but the injury isn’t as severe as initially feared.
The Netherlands international was hurt in the first half after a challenge from Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo and left Wembley on crutches with his left foot in a protective boot.
Wataru Endo (ankle) could also miss Wednesday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie at home to Southampton — meaning that Liverpool could be without 13 members of the senior squad due to injury.
“Ryan won’t be available, it’s a ligament injury,” confirmed manager Jurgen Klopp.
“It could have been much worse. But it’s bad enough being ruled out of this game and the next game and then we’ll see. We need miracles with a few players so I don’t want to rule him out for too long.
Thiago, who is out of contract this summer, was hurt on his comeback after 10 months out against Arsenal earlier this month and Klopp admits he may not play again this season due to a persistent hip problem.
There’s better news on young midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, who hasn’t featured since September.
“What Thiago has to do now from a medical point of view, I don’t know if that means he will be able to play again (this season),” Klopp added.
“It’s not a short-term thing. That’s why I’m not really in the subject. It’s not that he could be back in training in two weeks. It’s in the same region as before (hip).
“I had lunch before and saw Stefan training. I sat there and thought ‘why is he not playing?’ He’s gaining fitness, running around but he hasn’t had the green light for team training yet. He’s completely pain free which is the most important thing. All scans done again, bone looks good.”
