Lufthansa Ground Staff Strike Announced, to Last 27 Hours
Germany's Verdi union has called on Lufthansa ground staff to strike from Tuesday morning.
Strike Announcement Impacts Lufthansa Ground Staff
Germany's Verdi union has announced a strike for Lufthansa ground staff, adding to the ongoing industrial disputes in the country's aviation industry.
The strike is scheduled to start on Tuesday at 4 a.m. and end on Wednesday at 7:10 a.m.
Major airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, and Cologne-Bonn will be affected.
Flight Cancellations Affect Thousands of Passengers
Approximately 900 out of 1,000 scheduled flights have been canceled, impacting around 100,000 passengers.
Lufthansa is notifying affected passengers and offering refunds or rebooking options.
Passengers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
Dispute Over Pay Rises and Inflation Bonuses
The strike stems from an ongoing dispute between Verdi union and Lufthansa, with the union demanding 12.5% pay rises and a one-off group-wide inflation bonus for 25,000 employees.
Lufthansa last week offered a 10% pay rise, which was rejected by 96% of employees who believe their wages do not match Germany's inflation rate.
Negotiations between the union and the airline will continue on February 21.
