Machine Gun Kelly Apparently Changed His Stage Name to mgk
Machine Gun Kelly has reportedly changed his stage name to 'mgk' on music streaming platforms and social media.
Machine Gun Kelly's Transition to mgk
Although Machine Gun Kelly's birth name is Colson Baker, he has been known by his adopted stage name throughout his music career. He first used the name Machine Gun Kelly due to his rapid-fire delivery at a young age during his shows. This moniker has stuck with him ever since his debut album 'Lace Up' in 2012, even as he transitioned to pop-punk in 2020 with 'Tickets to My Downfall'.
Recently, Machine Gun Kelly seems to have made a change by officially adopting 'mgk' as his new stage name. This condensed version, written in all lowercase letters, can be seen on various streaming platforms and his social media profiles.
The Shift in Image
In addition to the name change, mgk has wiped his Instagram profile clean, leaving only a photo of his new blackout tattoos covering his upper body and arms. This move suggests a possible rebranding effort as he returns to his rap roots, following the release of his sophomore rock album 'Mainstream Sellout' in 2022.
However, it remains unclear whether mgk will maintain this new stage name permanently or revert back to Machine Gun Kelly at some point in the future.
New Music Releases and Plans
Since his name change, mgk released a new piano rap ballad titled 'Don't Let Me Go', marking the second bit of new music following 'Mainstream Sellout'. This release comes after his return to rap with the track 'Pressure' in 2023.
In an interview, mgk shared his intention to create a rap album without the need to prove anything to others. He expressed a desire to focus on making quality music rather than seeking validation.
