During an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sylvester Stallone shared a significant memory of his co-star Carl Weathers. Stallone, who played Rocky Balboa in the Rocky series, reminisced about the difficulty in finding someone who could play Apollo Creed. He described the role as requiring athleticism, brains, spirit, talent, and speed. Stallone recalled that Weathers, a former professional football player, possessed all these characteristics.

Stallone went on to recount the day Weathers came in to read for the part. It was a night when they were struggling to find the right actor, and Weathers arrived in a bad mood due to still playing football at the time. During their audition, Weathers sarcastically remarked that if Stallone could find him a real actor, he could perform. After taking a few shots at Stallone's head, Weathers was ultimately hired for the role.

Remembering Carl Weathers

Sylvester Stallone expressed his deep appreciation for Carl Weathers and acknowledged that he could not have played Rocky Balboa without him. Stallone described Weathers as magnificent and credited him with contributing to his success. Weathers had an impressive career beyond the Rocky series, featuring in notable roles such as Predator, Happy Gilmore, and The Mandalorian. Unfortunately, Weathers passed away at the age of 76 on February 1, 2024. His breakout role as Apollo Creed in the Rocky series left a lasting impact on audiences.

Stallone earlier paid tribute to their long friendship and praised Weathers for his greatness. Standing in front of a painting depicting their characters in the ring, Stallone expressed his sadness and credited Weathers for being integral to his life and success.
