Meta's CTO criticizes Apple Vision Pro for being uncomfortable
Meta's CTO, Andrew Bosworth, shares his thoughts on the challenges of developing immersive AR glasses and criticizes Apple's Vision Pro headset.
Andrew Bosworth's Critique of Apple Vision Pro
Andrew Bosworth, Meta's CTO, recently expressed his concerns about Apple's Vision Pro headset. In a Q&A session on Instagram, Bosworth highlighted several issues he experienced after using the competitor's device. Bosworth compared the Vision Pro to Meta's own Quest series of VR headsets.
Bosworth initially expected the Vision Pro to be technologically superior, acknowledging that Meta would have to position the Quest 3 as the best value headset. However, after trying it out, he concluded that the Quest 3 is the better overall device.
Weight and Motion Blur Concerns
One of Bosworth's main criticisms of the Vision Pro is its weight. He found the headset to be very uncomfortable and felt that the weight distribution was poor. In contrast, the Quest 3 offers a lighter and more comfortable experience.
Another issue Bosworth highlighted is the motion blur in the Vision Pro's screen when viewing physical surroundings. He found it to be distracting and raised questions about the device's design choices.
Positive Aspects of the Vision Pro
Despite his criticisms, Bosworth did acknowledge some positive features of the Vision Pro. He praised the device's super-high-resolution screens and low latency, which made watching movies and media a remarkable experience.
However, Bosworth ultimately recommends opting for Meta's Quest 3 headset, emphasizing its value for money and overall superiority.
