Mo Salah Sends Farewell Message to Departing Egypt Boss After African Cup of Nations Exit
Mohamed Salah has sent a farewell message to Egypt head coach Rui Vitoria after he was sacked following their disappointing campaign at the African Cup of Nations.
Egypt Sacks Rui Vitoria After African Cup of Nations Exit
Despite failing to win a single group stage game, Egypt managed to progress to the knockouts of the African Cup of Nations. However, their journey came to an end against DR Congo on penalties, leading to the sacking of head coach Rui Vitoria.
Vitoria, who took charge in July 2022 and signed a four-year contract, had a successful record going into the tournament with 12 wins out of 14 matches. However, the disappointing exit from AFCON led to his dismissal.
Mohamed Salah, Liverpool forward and Egypt international, expressed his gratitude to Vitoria on Instagram, saying, 'Thanks for everything, coach. I wish you the best in the future.'
Controversy between Salah and Jurgen Klopp
Salah's final match under Vitoria ended abruptly when he was substituted due to a hamstring injury. After the game, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp mentioned Salah's injury and his potential return to Merseyside for treatment, which annoyed Vitoria.
Vitoria criticized Klopp for discussing the matter publicly and stated that the club should not have spoken about it before an important game. Klopp later apologized to Vitoria for the misunderstanding.
Despite the controversy, Salah's return to Liverpool is uncertain, and his availability for future matches remains unknown as Liverpool competes for multiple trophies.
