Netflix Announces Live Tennis Match Featuring Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz
Netflix is stepping into the world of live sports with a new exhibition tennis match featuring Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz.
Netflix Announces The Netflix Slam
Netflix has announced a live exhibition tennis match called The Netflix Slam, featuring two of the sport's biggest stars: Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz.
The match will be held on March 3, 2024 at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
In addition to Nadal and Alcaraz, the event will feature other tennis matchups as well, with the players yet to be determined.
Netflix's Expansion into Live Sports
The Netflix Slam is the second in-house live sporting event for Netflix, following The Netflix Cup, a live golf exhibition match that took place last month.
Netflix has been successful in the sports docuseries genre with shows like Drive to Survive and Quarterback, and it seems the streaming giant is now venturing into producing live in-house events.
By producing their own live events, Netflix can have more control over the programming and attract built-in sponsors.
Netflix's Dominance in Sports Docuseries
Netflix has solidified its position as the leading player in the sports docuseries field, with shows like Drive to Survive and Quarterback gaining widespread popularity.
While Netflix has not pursued major live sports rights, their focus on producing in-house events allows them to maintain control over the content and provide exclusive sponsorships to subscribers.
The Netflix Slam will be produced by Full Day Productions, the same production company behind The Netflix Cup and The ESPY Awards.
