Red Line Closure

The Red Line service between Takoma and Rhode Island Ave stations will be closed this weekend, on Saturday, Feb. 10 and Sunday, Feb. 11. As a result, there will be no Red Line service at Fort Totten and Brookland.

To accommodate the closure, free shuttle buses will be available to replace the trains. Additionally, the upper-level Green Line platform at Fort Totten will remain open as an alternative for some customers traveling into downtown DC.

This closure is necessary to allow for the installation of radio and fiber-optic cables, which will upgrade communications systems and support future technology improvements. Crews will also be performing signaling, track, and system maintenance between the affected Red Line stations.

Blue, Orange, and Silver Line Adjustments

On the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines, there will be service adjustments to accommodate single tracking between McPherson Sq and Smithsonian stations.

During this time, workers will be replacing rail and fasteners, as well as welding sections of rail together to eliminate joints for a safer and smoother ride. Other mechanical and system maintenance will also be carried out.

Customers should be aware that there will be changes to train frequency and routes. It is recommended to plan additional travel time accordingly and consider using alternative modes of transportation if necessary.

Green and Yellow Line Service

To provide more frequent service to downtown stations, the Green Line and Yellow Line will have increased service during this period.

Between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., trains on the Green Line will run every six minutes, while all other times will have trains running every eight minutes. This adjustment aims to accommodate the higher passenger volume resulting from the Red Line closure.

Customers traveling on the Green Line or Yellow Line should take note of the enhanced service frequency and plan their journeys accordingly.
