Snowfall accumulations and records

The nor'easter resulted in over a foot of snowfall across Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New Jersey, with at least 15 inches reported in these three states.

In New York City, Central Park received a total of 3.2 inches of snow, making it the snowiest day since January 29, 2022. This ends a record drought of 744 consecutive days without 2 inches or more of snow in the city on a single day. The snowfall ceased early Tuesday afternoon.

Power outages and travel disruptions

More than 130,000 customers in Pennsylvania and thousands more in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Virginia experienced power outages due to the storm.

The heavy, wet snow caused tree branches to snap and weigh down power lines, exacerbated by gusty winds. This resulted in the cancellation of over 1,000 flights, predominantly in major airports in New York, Boston, and New Jersey.

Impact on commute and schools

The morning commute was severely affected by the storm, with over 250 car accidents reported to New Jersey State Police.

New York City Public Schools shifted to remote learning for the day, and classes were canceled in various city districts, including Boston, Newark, and New Haven.

Coastal flooding and strong winds

Coastal flood warnings were issued for parts of the New Jersey and Delaware coasts, with gusty winds of 30 to 40 mph driving water onshore. High tide on Tuesday evening could lead to coastal flooding of 2 to 3 feet from New Jersey to southern New England.

Snowfall accumulations across the Northeast caused travel difficulties, school closures, and power outages. Top snow reports include Farmington and West Hartford in Connecticut with 15.5 and 15.2 inches respectively, Shohola in Pennsylvania with 15 inches, and Sussex in New Jersey with 15 inches.

The storm disrupted travel, work, and school across major Northeast metropolitan areas, with New York City experiencing its snowiest day in two years. Power outages affected thousands of customers, flights were canceled, and the morning commute was treacherous. Coastal areas faced the risk of flooding and strong winds.
