Cantlay Rejects LIV Golf

Patrick Cantlay recently revealed in an interview with Golf Magazine that he has no plans on joining LIV Golf, despite meeting with representatives from the organization in 2023.

Cantlay's decision not to join LIV Golf was met with some surprise, as he had been rumored to be considering the switch. However, he made it clear that he sees himself continuing to play on the PGA Tour.

Despite allegations that Cantlay wanted to be paid for his Ryder Cup participation, he emphasized that his decision was based on personal values and priorities.

Declining Offers from LIV Golf

Cantlay disclosed that he had declined multiple offers from LIV Golf, both before and after joining the PGA Tour policy board in 2023. Even with the board membership, LIV Golf continued to reach out to him, but he remained steadfast in his decision to stay with the PGA Tour.

His management team presented him with a recent offer, which he promptly declined during their meeting. Cantlay's rejection of the offers indicates his commitment to remaining in the PGA Tour.

It is clear that Cantlay has been firm in his stance against joining LIV Golf and is confident in his decision to continue playing on the PGA Tour.

No Control Over PGA Tour

Reports have suggested that Patrick Cantlay is 'in control' of the PGA Tour as it navigates its future negotiations with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which currently supports LIV Golf. Cantlay disputed these claims, highlighting the structure and decision-making process of the PGA Tour.

He pointed out that no single player, including himself, has the power to take control of the tour. The players collectively hold only half the seats on the board, and any major vote requires a two-thirds majority. Cantlay also highlighted the involvement of investment bank Allen and Co. and the tour's role in driving discussions.

Cantlay's statements make it clear that he believes the PGA Tour operates independently and that no one player has ultimate control over its decisions.
