Quaker Oats Announces Expanded Recall of Products

Over the holiday break, I had to throw out several Quaker Chewy Granola Bars because they were part of a recall issued by Quaker Oats. While it was disappointing, it gave me an opportunity to discuss the importance of food safety and staying informed with my kids.

Recently, Quaker Oats announced that they are expanding their recall of various products, including granola bars, cereal bars, protein bars, instant oatmeal, and snack mix. The recall now includes a total of 49 products that have been sold across the United States and other territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, and Saipan. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has provided an updated announcement that lists all the recalled products.

The reason for the recall is the potential contamination of these products with salmonella, a type of bacterial infection that can be especially dangerous for young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, fever, and dehydration. As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of illness related to this particular recall.

Actions to Take If You Have the Recalled Products

It is crucial to check your pantry and snack drawers for any of the recalled products, especially if you have purchased them prior to the recall as they may have a long shelf-life. If you do find any of the recalled items, do not consume them. It is recommended to discard them.

For reimbursement, you can reach out to Quaker Oats by contacting them online or calling 800-492-9322. Their customer service is available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST.
