Nadal's Realistic Outlook on Winning Tournaments

Rafael Nadal, the 22-times Grand Slam champion, expressed that it is still 'impossible' for him to think about winning tournaments as he makes his return to the tennis court.

After spending almost a year on the sidelines due to a hip injury, Nadal will be making his comeback at the Brisbane International. The injury was sustained during his second round defeat at Melbourne Park in January, and he did not compete again for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery in June.

Despite his rivals, including world number one Novak Djokovic, believing that Nadal will be back at his competitive best, the 37-year-old remains modest about his chances of winning titles in what could potentially be his final season on tour.

Prioritizing Enjoyment and Progress in Comeback

Nadal shared in an interview with the Australian Associated Press that his primary objective is to enjoy his comeback and not to set high expectations for himself. He stated, 'It's impossible to think about winning tournaments today. What's really possible is to enjoy the comeback. I don't expect much... one year without being on the court.'

Although Nadal has been intensifying his training in recent months and has been practicing with other players, he acknowledges that he cannot have long-term goals at this moment.

He stated, 'I don't know how things are going to keep going. I'm not a player who tries to predict what can happen in the short term, and it's tougher in the medium period of time. I need to accept the adversity and that it's not going to be perfect, just come with the right spirit every day.'

Upcoming Tournaments

The Brisbane International, where Nadal is set to make his comeback, will begin on Sunday. Following that, the Australian Open will take place from January 14th to 28th.

As Nadal continues to work towards regaining his form and fitness, fans and tennis enthusiasts eagerly anticipate his return to the competitive circuit.
