Raiders Coach Implements 'Mahomes Rules' for Playing Chiefs
Antonio Pierce discusses his approach to playing the Chiefs and implementing 'Mahomes rules' as head coach of the Raiders.
Raiders Coach Channels 'Bad Boy' Pistons
Antonio Pierce, head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, revealed that he used the tough defensive game plan devised by the 'Bad Boy' Detroit Pistons to prepare his team to face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Before their upset victory over the Chiefs on Christmas Day, Pierce showed his team videos of famous boxing and MMA fights, as well as footage of the Pistons' approach to playing Michael Jordan in the late 1980s.
Pierce emphasized the need for his players to be physical and aggressive, just like the Pistons were with Jordan. He referred to this game plan as the 'Patrick Mahomes rules' and believes it contributed to their success.
Raiders Defense Shuts Down Mahomes
In the game against the Chiefs, the Raiders' defense sacked Mahomes four times and had 10 quarterback hits. They also scored two defensive touchdowns, including a pick-six off Mahomes.
This performance had a significant impact on the Chiefs' season, as they went on to win six straight games, including the Super Bowl.
Pierce believes that the Raiders' success against Mahomes has given the NFL a blueprint for beating the Chiefs.
Motivation to Win the AFC West
Pierce sees the Chiefs' use of the Raiders' facility before the Super Bowl as motivation for his team.
He believes that in order to become a consistent winner, the Raiders need to win the AFC West and dethrone the Chiefs, who have dominated the division for the past eight seasons.
Pierce is focused on knocking off the 'head of the snake' and believes that winning the division is the first step towards achieving their goals.
