Injuries to Goalies

Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde announced that goalies Ville Husso and Alex Lyon will be sidelined due to injuries. Husso is out week to week with a lower-body injury, while Lyon has an upper-body injury and will be out until after the holiday break. Husso had to leave the game against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday after making six saves on eight shots. James Reimer replaced him and made 12 saves in relief. Lyon was also forced to leave the game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, making 14 saves on 15 shots before being replaced by Husso.

Lyon, who joined the team as a free agent in July, has a record of 4-3-0 this season with a 2.14 goals against average (GAA), .932 save percentage, and one shutout. Husso, on the other hand, has a record of 9-5-0 with a 3.53 GAA and .893 save percentage.

With both goalies out, the Red Wings have signed Michael Hutchinson to a one-year, two-way contract to serve as a replacement. Hutchinson has played 13 games with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League this season, recording a 5-7-1 record with a 2.98 GAA and .895 save percentage. He has prior NHL experience, playing in 153 games with a record of 57-61-18, a 2.93 GAA, .902 save percentage, and six shutouts.

Red Wings' Recent Performance

The Detroit Red Wings have been struggling recently, losing three straight games and six of their last seven. They currently hold the fourth spot in the Atlantic Division with a record of 15-12-4 for the season. The team will be looking to turn things around in their upcoming games after the holiday break.

After their game against the Winnipeg Jets, the Red Wings will host the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday and then visit the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Their first game following the holiday break is scheduled against the Minnesota Wild on December 27th.

Injury to Forward Klim Kostin

In addition to the goalie injuries, the Red Wings have placed forward Klim Kostin on injured reserve. Kostin suffered an upper-body injury during the game against the Anaheim Ducks, following a collision with defenseman Radko Gudas. He is considered week to week and has accumulated three points (two goals, one assist) in 23 games this season.

The Red Wings will need to adjust their lineup and find ways to compensate for the absence of Kostin in the upcoming games.
