Bow Caddy Media captures start of the Sydney Hobart Race

Crosbie Lorimer, a contributor to Bow Caddy Media, gave an update after the start of the 2023 Sydney Hobart Race. Unfortunately, the shoot was cut short due to approaching storms near Bankstown Airport. However, the team managed to capture some great footage nonetheless.

Various photos were taken during the start of the race, showcasing the participating yachts as they navigated the waters. The images include Scallywag rounding a mark, Andoo Comanche preparing to part with their Channel 7 crew, Calibre settling in for the trip south, and many more.

Despite the shortened shoot, Bow Caddy Media was able to capture the excitement and anticipation of the race's beginning. These images offer a glimpse into the intensity and skill required for this challenging event.

Race updates and retirements

As the race progresses, Andoo Comanche and LawConnect continue their cat and mouse game at the front of the fleet. The two boats are separated by just 4 nautical miles. Overnight, two more retirements were reported.

SHK Scallywag, a 100ft yacht from Hong Kong, became the first casualty of the race when its bow sprit broke. This unfortunate incident forced the crew to retire from the competition. Additionally, Scallywag's new rig, which was stepped further aft, had been performing well prior to the incident.

The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is known for its challenging conditions, and these retirements highlight the difficulties faced by participants. Despite setbacks, the race continues, and there is still much excitement to come.

LawConnect leads the fleet

LawConnect, a 100-foot supermaxi, made a strong start to the race, leading the fleet towards the Heads. Skipper Tony Mutter provided an update from on board, expressing their determination to break their runner-up finishes in previous races.

The competition in this year's race is intense, with various yachts vying for the top spot. LawConnect's early lead demonstrates their skill and strategy. However, as the race continues, the rankings can quickly change, and the frontrunners will face challenges from their competitors.

Spectators and participants alike are eagerly following the race, anticipating the outcome and marveling at the impressive performance of these sailing teams.
