Battery Protection Feature for Longer Battery Life

Samsung is introducing a new battery protection feature for Galaxy S24 and current Galaxy phone owners. This feature aims to extend the life of the phone's battery pack.

The feature offers three options for battery protection. The first option is basic protection, which stops charging at 100% and resumes only when the battery drops to 95%. The second option is an adaptive charging mode that slows down charging to 100% until the user wakes up. This mode learns the user's routine and provides moderate protection.

The final option is maximum protection, which stops charging completely at 80% and does not resume until the battery drops below that level. Samsung has implemented tiered battery protection because charging and draining the battery from 0% to 100% degrades it faster than topping it up.

Activation and Availability

It was initially believed that this new battery protection feature would be exclusive to One UI 6.1, which is expected to launch with the Galaxy S24. However, a leak suggests that it may be possible to activate the feature in One UI 6 by downloading an app called Activity Launcher and enabling it by searching for "batterypro."

It should be noted that the feature may not yet work properly, indicating that it may be reserved for the next One UI update. More information will be available upon the launch of the Galaxy S24.

Battery Health Features by Other Tech Giants

Samsung, Google, and Apple are all focused on improving battery life and offering battery health features.

Google provides battery health features for its Pixel phones, including cycle count, manufacture date, and current battery capacity. The company also promises to supply parts, including batteries, for seven years.

Apple offers similar battery health features for its iPhones, as well as battery protection tools. It remains to be seen how Samsung's offering will compare, but it is expected that the company will provide software and replacement parts support for the upcoming Galaxy S24 to remain competitive in the market.
