Scrub! SpaceX-NASA Intuitive Machines Moon Lander Launch Postponed
SpaceX's launch of the Intuitive Machines IM-1 mission has been postponed to Thursday morning.
Launch Delay
SpaceX crews have decided to postpone the launch of the Falcon 9 rocket for the Intuitive Machines IM-1 mission. The launch was scheduled for Wednesday morning but was called off due to off-nominal methane temperatures.
In a tweet, SpaceX officials explained that the launch was delayed because of the methane temperature issue. The new target liftoff time is now set for 1:05 a.m. on Thursday.
Mission Details
The mission, named IM-1, involves SpaceX's moon lander called Odysseus. Odysseus will be launched as part of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative and the Artemis campaign. The spacecraft aims to land on the moon.
Upon stage separation, the Falcon 9 first-stage booster will attempt to land at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. This may cause sonic booms in the area.
Weather Conditions and Future Updates
The weather conditions for the rescheduled launch on Thursday are looking favorable. The 45th Weather Squadron of the Space Force predicts a 90% chance of favorable weather, with the main concerns being thick cloud layers and a moderate risk of upper-level wind shear.
