Employee Terminated for Putting 6-Year-Old on Wrong Flight

Spirit Airlines has reportedly terminated an employee who accidentally escorted a 6-year-old child onto the wrong flight. The child was supposed to travel to Fort Myers but ended up on a plane to Orlando instead.

The incident occurred just four days before Christmas, causing the child to be flown over 160 miles away from his family. After conducting an investigation, Spirit Airlines determined that a gate agent in Philadelphia was responsible for the mistake.

In a statement provided to ABC News, Spirit Airlines expressed their commitment to holding individuals accountable for any failures to follow procedures. They also apologized to the child's family and assured that they are in communication with them regarding the matter.

Family's Experience and Spirit Airlines' Response

The grandmother of the child, Maria Ramos, recounted the distressing experience of her grandson being on the wrong flight. Upon realizing the mistake, she drove across Florida to collect him from Orlando.

Spirit Airlines confirmed that the child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member during the incident. They apologized for the error and reimbursed Ramos for her travel expenses to collect her grandson.

The airline has not yet responded to a request for comment from Business Insider outside of normal working hours.
