Employee Fired After Putting Boy on Wrong Plane

A 6-year-old boy who was supposed to fly from Pennsylvania to Florida to visit his grandmother ended up on the wrong flight and landed in Orlando instead of Fort Myers. Spirit Airlines has taken action and fired the employee responsible for the mix-up. This incident occurred a week ago and has caused distress for the boy's family.

Following an internal investigation, it was determined that the Spirit Airlines agent had mistakenly directed the unaccompanied minor to the wrong gate. As a result, the boy arrived at the wrong airport, more than 160 miles away from his intended destination. The grandmother, who had eagerly driven 3 hours from Fort Myers to pick up her grandson, was told upon arrival that he had missed his flight.

Accountability and Reiteration of Procedures

Spirit Airlines has taken full responsibility for the incident and assured the family that the employee responsible will be held accountable for failing to follow company procedures. The airline promises to take appropriate action against any individual whose actions contributed to the incorrect boarding of the child. They are also working to improve communication and reinforce their procedures among their team.

The grandmother, Maria Ramos, expressed her frustration over the situation and emphasized the importance of finding her grandson. She declined the airline's offer to transport him from Orlando to Fort Myers, instead choosing to drive the 3-hour distance herself. Ramos seeks accountability and acknowledgment of the mistake.

Baggage Arrives Safely

Despite the mix-up with the flight, the boy's checked bag arrived safely at the correct airport in Fort Myers. This provides some relief for the family, knowing that at least their belongings were not misplaced during the ordeal.

In a previous statement, Spirit Airlines addressed the incident and apologized to the family for the experience. They assured that the child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit team member and that immediate steps were taken to communicate with the family and rectify the situation. The airline is conducting an internal investigation to understand how the mistake occurred and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
