Stephen King Shares His Thoughts on Salem's Lot

Renowned horror author Stephen King has taken to social media to voice his opinion on Warner Bros. decision to postpone the release of Salem's Lot. The film, originally scheduled for a 2022 release, has been pushed back to 2023 due to Covid-related delays in post-production.

In his tweet, King assures his followers that he has seen Salem's Lot and considers it to be a great horror film. He describes it as 'old-school horror filmmaking' with a slow build and a satisfying payoff. Despite his positive review, King expresses confusion as to why Warner Bros. is holding back the release, stating that the film is not embarrassing in any way.

King concludes his tweet by humorously remarking that he only writes the stories and does not have control over the release decisions made by the studio.

About Salem's Lot

Salem's Lot is a horror novel written by Stephen King, first published in 1975. The story follows author Ben Mears as he returns to his hometown of Jerusalem's Lot in search of inspiration for his next book. However, he soon discovers that his childhood home is plagued by a bloodthirsty vampire.

The novel was previously adapted into a two-part miniseries directed by Tobe Hooper in 1979 and a new two-part miniseries by TNT in 2004, with Rob Lowe in the lead role. The upcoming film, directed by Gary Dauberman, features a cast including Lewis Pullman, Alfre Woodard, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Spencer Treat Clark, Pilou Asbæk, and John Benjamin Hickey.

Warner Bros.' Decision and Delay

Warner Bros. had originally planned to release Salem's Lot after Labor Day in 2022. However, due to Covid-related delays in the post-production process, the release date was later moved to Spring 2023. This decision has sparked speculation and confusion among fans and industry insiders, as King himself expresses his satisfaction with the film and questions why it is being held back.

Despite the delay, fans of Stephen King and the horror genre are eagerly awaiting the release of Salem's Lot, hoping for a memorable and chilling cinematic experience.
