Engineer Allegedly Attacked by Robot at Giga Texas Factory

According to an incident report filed with regulators, a Tesla engineer at the company's factory near Austin was reportedly attacked by a robot in 2021. Witnesses claimed that the robot pinned the engineer and clawed at his back and arm, leaving a trail of blood on the factory floor. The incident was documented in the injury report filed to Travis county and federal regulators. The robot was specifically designed to handle freshly-cast aluminium car parts.

The engineer was only able to break free from the robot's grip when a colleague pressed the emergency stop button. As a result of the attack, the engineer suffered an open wound on his left hand and tumbled down a chute intended for collecting scrap aluminium. Tesla has not yet provided a comment on the incident.

Tesla's Workplace Safety Concerns

Tesla has faced criticism for its handling of workplace safety and accident reporting. The Giga Texas plant, in particular, has shown a higher rate of injuries compared to industry averages. Data has revealed that severe on-the-job injuries occurred at a ratio of one in every 26 workers at the Tesla Giga Texas plant, while other major US auto factories had a ratio of one in every 38 workers. These findings have raised concerns about the company's commitment to ensuring the safety of its employees.

It's worth noting that in this particular incident, despite sustaining injuries, the engineer did not require time off work, according to reports.
