Consumer Reports has released their annual reliability rankings for 2023, highlighting the most reliable cars, SUVs, and brands. Toyota and Lexus claimed the top two spots, with a surprise appearance from Mini in third place.
Brand Reliability
Consumer Reports collected data on over 330,000 vehicles to determine the reliability rankings for 2023.
Lexus took the top position, dethroning last year's leader, Toyota.
Mini secured the third spot, outranking its parent brand, BMW.
Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz, and Rivian ranked at the bottom, representing the least reliable models.
Regional Reliability
Asian automakers maintained their strong performance with an average score of 63/100.
European automakers averaged 46/100, while U.S. automakers achieved a score of 39/100.
Asian automakers continue to show superior reliability compared to other regions.
Most Reliable Models
The Toyota 4Runner claimed the top spot for the most reliable model.
Toyota dominated the top 10 rankings, with 7 out of 10 spots occupied by their models.
Other notable models in the top 10 include the BMW X5, Subaru Forester, and Acura RDX.
Powertrain Reliability
Fully electric vehicles reported 79% more problems compared to gasoline-powered cars.
Plug-in hybrids performed even worse, with 146% more reported problems than regular ICE vehicles.
Non-plug-in hybrids had 26% fewer problems than ICE-powered cars, proving to be more reliable.
