Thousands of flights canceled, delayed across US due to winter weather
The winter weather is wreaking havoc on airports across the country as thousands of flights have been canceled or delayed due to snow, ice and bone-chilling temperatures.
Southwest Airlines leads in flight cancelations
As of mid-day Monday, Southwest Airlines has the highest number of flight cancelations with 650. Denver International Airport (DIA) and Chicago Midway International Airport are also heavily impacted.
On Sunday, DIA had the most canceled or delayed flights in the country and continues to top the list with 310 canceled flights as of Monday morning.
Chicago's airports, Midway and O'Hare, have also experienced significant cancelations, with 162 and 238 flights canceled, respectively.
Texas airports affected by cold conditions
Unusually bitter and cold conditions in Texas have resulted in a combined 200 flight cancelations across major airports in Dallas, Houston, and Austin.
Dallas Love Field Airport issued a warning about extreme weather conditions affecting North Texas, advising passengers to check with their airlines for the latest updates on delays and cancellations.
The state's airports are closely monitoring the weather and taking measures to ensure safe operations.
Wintry conditions and travel warnings
The National Weather Service has issued warnings of wintry conditions, including freezing rain, from Texas and Louisiana to the central Appalachian region and Mid-Atlantic states.
Travel conditions are expected to be extremely dangerous due to ice, and additional tree damage and power outages are anticipated.
Buffalo, New York experienced heavy snowfall, leading to rescheduled NFL games and travel restrictions implemented by the governor. The Buffalo Niagara International Airport also saw a significant number of cancellations.
