Tiger Woods withdraws from Genesis Invitational due to illness

Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational in the middle of his round due to illness. The 48-year-old confirmed that he was dealing with influenza and that his symptoms were improving. Woods expressed disappointment in not being able to compete and thanked the tournament organizers and fans for their support.

This was Woods' first full-fledged PGA Tour event since the previous year's Masters, which he also had to withdraw from. After undergoing ankle surgery and missing the rest of the majors in 2023, Woods made a comeback at the Hero World Challenge, where he finished 18th. The Genesis Invitational marked a return to a full field for Woods, and he shot a 1-over 72 in the first round.

During the second round, Woods appeared to wince after a tee shot on the seventh hole and was carted off the course, ending his run in the tournament. However, his business partner confirmed that it was solely due to the flu and not any pain. Since his car crash in 2021, Woods has participated in six 72-hole PGA Tour events but has been able to complete only two of them.
