Tiger Woods Returns to Competitive Golf

Tiger Woods made his return to competitive PGA Tour action at the Genesis Invitational with a one-over-par 72. This was his first tournament since playing the Hero World Challenge in December.

Due to serious leg injuries from a car accident in 2021, Woods has been restricted to a limited schedule. He hosted the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.

During his round, Woods carded five birdies and six bogeys. However, he struggled with back spasms for the final three holes, which contributed to a shank on the 18th hole.

Challenges of Returning to Competitive Golf

After his round, Woods mentioned that it had been a while since he last shanked a shot from a similar position. He also acknowledged that preparing for a return to competitive golf is difficult.

Woods explained that he relies heavily on experience and the adrenaline rush in his system affects the distance the ball travels and the speed of his swing. The yardages on the course are different from what he practices at home.

Despite the challenges, Woods sees these differences as a natural part of playing competitive golf and adjusting to the conditions on the course.

Tiger Woods' Return and Future Plans

The Genesis Invitational, organized by the Tiger Woods Foundation, is considered one of the PGA Tour's Signature Events. It features many of the circuit's top players, including the world's top 10 ranked players.

Woods, who is chasing his first PGA Tour win since 2019, is aiming to play in one tournament per month this year. After undergoing ankle surgery in 2023, Woods made his comeback in December, finishing 18th in the Hero World Challenge and playing the PNC Championship with his son Charlie.

The tournament results have shown Woods' progress as he returns to top-level competition. His goal is to regain his form and secure another PGA Tour victory.
