Tory Burch showcased her 2024 Fall Winter Collection at New York Fashion Week, drawing inspiration from ordinary objects and redefining her designs.
Tory Burch Redefines Everyday Fashion
Tory Burch presented her 2024 Fall Winter Collection at New York Fashion Week, featuring designs that aim to make the everyday feel sublime. Inspired by ordinary objects like a lampshade or well-worn coat, Burch set out to redefine the form of her designs with this collection. She expressed her desire to present the silhouette in a fresh, new way by using different textures and innovative techniques to create a lighter feel.
Burch explained, 'I became really obsessed with the idea of volume, but not a heaviness.' Her goal was to create designs that have a sense of lightness and fluidity, while still maintaining a unique and elevated aesthetic.
Models Showcase Burch's Creative Concept
During the fashion show, models including Emily Ratajkowski, Paloma Elsesser, and Irina Shayk walked the runway, displaying Burch's collection of 34 designs. The show took place at the New York Public Library, with the models walking through a long, narrow hallway to showcase the variations of Burch's concept.
The collection featured faux croc tops and skirts, as well as Tinsel raffia coats and dresses. Burch shared her focus on working with fabrics that create shape and adhere to the body, while still being featherweight and stretchy. She wanted to experiment with different techniques like bonding and seam sealing to achieve the desired effect.
Taking Risks and Using Sustainable Materials
While many of the designs pushed Burch out of her comfort zone, one particular standout piece was a hooded sweater with an orange lampshade skirt. Burch explained that she wanted to create depth in the palette by combining beautiful neutral tones with vibrant pops of color.
In terms of materials, Burch got creative by using faux fur for a porcupine jacket and cotton with a croc-like finish for a faux leather look. She also incorporated paper leather into her designs. Burch emphasized the importance of sustainability in the fashion industry and expressed her commitment to using more sustainable materials in her collections.
