Toyota Recalling 1 Million Vehicles for Potential Air Bag Problem
Toyota Motor Co. is recalling 1 million vehicles over a defect that could cause airbags not to deploy, increasing the risk of injury.
Recall Details
Toyota Motor Co. has announced a recall of 1 million vehicles due to a potential air bag problem. The defect could prevent the airbags from deploying, posing a risk of injury.
The recall includes various Toyota and Lexus models manufactured between 2020 and 2022. This includes Toyota Avalons, Camrys, Highlanders, RAV4s, Siennas, and Corollas, as well as some hybrid versions of these models.
Lexus models such as the ES250 sedan and the RX350 SUV are also affected by the recall.
Cause of the Issue
The vehicles being recalled have sensors in the front passenger seat that may have been manufactured improperly. These sensors have the potential to short circuit, leading to an inaccurate determination of the occupant's weight. As a result, the airbag system might not deploy correctly in certain types of crashes.
Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect and replace the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensors as necessary. The replacement will be conducted at no cost to the owners.
Owners of affected Toyota vehicles can expect to be notified by the middle of February 2024. They can also contact Toyota Customer Service at 1-800-331-4331 for further information. Lexus owners can reach out to 1-800-255-3987 for more details.
Recall Process
Toyota and Lexus are committed to ensuring the safety of their customers. As part of the recall, dealers will inspect the OCS sensors and replace them if required. This proactive measure aims to minimize the risk of potential injuries.
If you own a Toyota or Lexus vehicle within the affected model years and have concerns about the recall, it is advised to contact the respective customer service helpline. Toyota and Lexus will provide necessary assistance and guidance to address any issues related to the recall.
