Incident at Boston Logan Airport

Two JetBlue planes clipped each other on Thursday morning while on a deicing pad at Boston Logan International Airport. According to JetBlue, the incident occurred when the two planes were on adjacent deicing pad lanes. The left winglet of JetBlue flight 777 struck the right horizontal stabilizer of JetBlue flight 551.

JetBlue confirmed that the impact damaged one aircraft's winglet and the other plane's tail section. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the event happened on an area of the tarmac controlled by JetBlue and will be investigating the incident.

The incident took place around 6:40 a.m. ET and no injuries were reported by passengers or crew. Both planes will be taken out of service for repairs.

Passenger Experiences

Dave Sauter, a passenger on JetBlue flight 777, described the collision as a minor event. Although passengers felt the brakes when the planes stopped, they did not feel the collision due to the weight. Sauter mentioned that passengers were not scared, but rather frustrated.

JetBlue stated that both flights affected by the incident will operate on other planes. JetBlue flight 777 was scheduled to go to Las Vegas, while JetBlue flight 551 was heading to Orlando. The airline expressed that safety is its priority and will work to determine the cause of the incident.

Previous Incidents at Boston Logan

Boston Logan International Airport has experienced other wing clip incidents in the past year. In March, two United planes clipped wings while one was pushing back from the gate. In June, a United plane's wing clipped the tail of a Delta plane during taxiing to a holding pad.
