Union Berlin coach sent off for pushing Leroy Sané in the face
Nenad Bjelica, head coach of Union Berlin, was shown a red card for pushing Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sané in the face during a Bundesliga match.
Bjelica's altercation with Sané
In a feisty Bundesliga encounter, Nenad Bjelica, the head coach of Union Berlin, was sent off for pushing Leroy Sané in the face not once, but twice. The incident took place in the 74th minute of the match, with Bayern Munich leading 1-0.
Sané had gone to retrieve the ball after it went out of play, but Bjelica prevented him from doing so by throwing it over his shoulder. Sané attempted to swipe for the ball but was unsuccessful. Clearly infuriated by Sané's efforts, Bjelica pushed him in the face as they confronted each other on the sideline. Even as others intervened to separate them, Bjelica again put his hand in Sané's face.
Reflecting on his actions, Bjelica admitted, "I reacted and I shouldn't have done. The red card was absolutely deserved."
Bayern Munich's dominance and the winning goal
Bayern Munich, determined to bounce back after their previous defeat against Werder Bremen, dominated the first half of the match. However, Union Berlin's goalkeeper, Frederik Rønnow, made several saves to keep his team level.
The deadlock was finally broken just 30 seconds into the second half. Harry Kane's shot hit the post, and Raphaël Guerreiro was quick to follow up with the rebound, firing a shot into the top corner of the net. Kane later thought he had doubled the lead, but his goal was disallowed for an offside during the buildup.
Despite Bayern's dominance in the first half, they began to struggle as the game progressed, and Union Berlin had several opportunities to equalize. Union Berlin players were displeased with the referee's decision not to award them a penalty after Kevin Behrens was seemingly denied a clear goalscoring opportunity by Konrad Laimer. However, Bayern managed to hold on for an important victory.
Bayern's position in the Bundesliga
Following their win, Bayern Munich currently occupies the second position in the Bundesliga table, trailing four points behind Bayer Leverkusen. The team put in a solid performance and expressed satisfaction with the result.
Bayern midfielder Leon Goretzka stated, "It was a decent game, a solid performance. When you score a second goal, opposition heads tend to drop. That makes things easier. It got a bit heated towards the end." Bayern will aim to continue their strong form and narrow the gap to the league leaders in the upcoming matches.
